Jiajing Six-Character Mark
The deep rounded sides are supported on a straight foot, rising to an everted rim. This bowl is finely decorated in anhua to the interior with flying dragon amidst flaming cloud. It is applied overall with a milky-white glaze which gives a sugar-like white tone. The foot ring is unglazed to show the white body and a band of firing red colour. The base is inscribed with six-character Jiajing mark in a double-circle.
The prototype of such white glaze is from Yongle period of Ming Dynasty. It was during the Yongle reign that the famous‘sweet white’glaze was developed. This glaze has been admired by connoisseurs ever since for its soft,sugar-like,appearance,which so perfectly complements the skillful potting and pure white porcelain body made by the Jingdezhen potters of that period.
